Hi, I’m Jay, theCentre Manager at Active Explorers St Lukes.

My approach to teaching is rooted in respectful practice, cultural awareness, and a deep commitment to meaningful learning. These values shape not only how I teach, but also how I lead. I take a values-driven, human-centred approach to leadership and management, and I’m passionate about creating transformative educational experiences for every child.

About Centre Name

At Active Explorers St Lukes, we believe in nurturing the whole child through strong whānau connections, inclusive practices and a deep understanding of early development. Our team works closely with families to create tailored learning experiences that reflect each child’s background and needs.

Our centre sits on the second floor, offering a unique view across the whenua and into the treetops, bringing nature closer to our everyday learning. Purpose-built and enriched by cultural diversity, our space is designed for exploration, comfort and growth.

We welcome tamariki from birth to five years, with three dedicated learning spaces tailored to different age groups. Daily life here includes enrichment activities such as yoga, baking, excursions and play, all underpinned by respectful care and a strong sense of community.

Our centre offers a calm, elevated setting that brings children closer to nature. Indoors and outdoors, tamariki enjoy open-ended play, sensory exploration and meaningful connections in beautiful, purpose-built spaces designed to inspire.

0–2 years

Kākano

Our infant room provides a calm, nurturing space where babies form secure attachments. The environment supports freedom of movement and sensory exploration, with a strong focus on respectful care and connection with whānau.

2 - 3.5 years

Māhuri

Māhuri is an interactive learning space where toddlers and young learners are encouraged to explore, create and grow. With activities that reflect their developmental needs, children are supported to build confidence, curiosity and social connections.

3.5 – 5 years

Pōhutukawa

In Pōhutukawa, our preschoolers engage in more structured learning and social experiences to prepare for school. The programme includes regular excursions, early literacy, creative projects and opportunities for leadership and independence.

*20 Hours ECE

Our Centre offers 20 Hours ECE for all children 3-5 years, meaning the cost of childcare can be fully subsidised for a maximum of 6 hours per day and up to 20 hours per week, when you complete an Attestation Form allocating you full entitlement of 20 Hours to our Centre. After 20 Hours ECE the above Over 3 years of age hourly fee is payable.

I couldn't speak more highly of the teachers and administration staff at Active Explorers St Lukes. Both my kids have been going there for the last few years. My daughter since she was 1 - 4.5 and son...

In the short amount of time that Cassidy has been at Active Explorers her growth and development has been incredible. Her fine motor skills have developed and can now identify and write the letters of her name! Cassidy is building relationships with the teachers and students and feels a sense of belonging, as do I. I enjoy catching up with the teachers on pick up and drop off to see what Cassidy has been learning through the day. I also love the updates during the day through Storypark. Even though Cassidy is only 3 I feel like she is well on her way to an excellent start to her education. The teachers also extend on what we are learning at home, whether it's te reo maori or reading they get involved and we work together. I love the Active Explorers whanau. Keep up the great work team.

My son thoroughly enjoys his time at Active Explorers in the Super Tots classroom. His teachers encourage his development in all aspects, and ensure that he is happy and having fun at the same time. We have open communication between home and daycare, and know that everyone is working for the best outcome for my son. It is great to see how happy all of the children are and the different learning experiences they are having.

Active Explorers Airport is a fantastic establishment. As parents, we wanted Zara to feel comfortable in the environment that she spends most of her day in and we found a perfect match in Active Explorers Airport. The teachers take a genuine interest in the child's progress and help to not only educate but to build their confidence. Zara started at- Active Explorers Airport when she was two and will be turning four soon. We have enjoyed our journey with Active Explorers Airport and would highly recommend them.

I would like to say how well and how much my daughter has learnt and progressed during her time at Active Explorers daycare. The teachers in supertots are amazing and so interactive with the children and my daughter absolutely loves them, I am truly pleased at how much she has learnt and how she interacts with other children, she surprises me each day!
