Kiaora

I'm Caitlin, I am a qualified and fully certificated Early Childhood Educator. I am a born and bred West Coaster, and I have been teaching for 6 years now. This incredible journey as a teacher has led me teach in communities across the South Island as well as some time in Australia.

I believe that early childhood education is a place for every child to have opportunities to dream, create, flourish and grow. I love being part of the Active Explorers Hokitika team, sharing knowledge, having fun, learning alongside others and sharing in the joy of seeing our most precious taonga, our tamariki learn and grow.

About Active Explorers Shakespeare Street

At Active Explorers Shakespeare St, relationships are at the heart of everything we do. We take time to truly get to know our tamariki and their whānau, creating a warm, supportive space where each child feels safe, seen and celebrated.

We’re lucky to be based on a former bowling green near town, which gives us a huge outdoor play area that's perfect for climbing, biking and exploring. Inside, our thoughtfully designed space includes cosy play nooks, a construction alley and a welcoming hui area where tamariki can gather and connect.

Our centre caters to children aged 2 to 6 in one shared learning environment. This setup helps build strong peer relationships and smooths the transition as children grow. We’re proud of our close-knit, multicultural Greymouth community. Many of our families are Māori and Indian, and we love building connections through regular visits to the retirement flats next door.

We’re a small, passionate team who’ve worked together for years, creating a stable and loving environment for tamariki and their families. Whether it’s baking with the kids, connecting with our community or encouraging creativity, we’re here to support your child’s journey every step of the way.

Our centre feels like a second home, with lots of laughter, plenty of room to run and play, and cosy corners to relax and create. Indoors and out, our spaces are designed to help tamariki feel confident, curious and ready to grow.

Main Room

Our one-room centre brings all our tamariki together, creating a family-style environment where older children can lead and younger ones can learn by example. There’s space for everything from messy art to quiet stories, with lots of love, learning and play woven into each day.

*20 Hours ECE

Our Centre offers 20 Hours ECE for all children 3-5 years, meaning the cost of childcare can be fully subsidised for a maximum of 6 hours per day and up to 20 hours per week, when you complete an Attestation Form allocating you full entitlement of 20 Hours to our Centre. After 20 Hours ECE the above Over 3 years of age hourly fee is payable.

This is a amazing place for children to learn play and run round with the big outdoor area the staff are all warm and welcoming

In the short amount of time that Cassidy has been at Active Explorers her growth and development has been incredible. Her fine motor skills have developed and can now identify and write the letters of her name! Cassidy is building relationships with the teachers and students and feels a sense of belonging, as do I. I enjoy catching up with the teachers on pick up and drop off to see what Cassidy has been learning through the day. I also love the updates during the day through Storypark. Even though Cassidy is only 3 I feel like she is well on her way to an excellent start to her education. The teachers also extend on what we are learning at home, whether it's te reo maori or reading they get involved and we work together. I love the Active Explorers whanau. Keep up the great work team.

My son thoroughly enjoys his time at Active Explorers in the Super Tots classroom. His teachers encourage his development in all aspects, and ensure that he is happy and having fun at the same time. We have open communication between home and daycare, and know that everyone is working for the best outcome for my son. It is great to see how happy all of the children are and the different learning experiences they are having.

Active Explorers Airport is a fantastic establishment. As parents, we wanted Zara to feel comfortable in the environment that she spends most of her day in and we found a perfect match in Active Explorers Airport. The teachers take a genuine interest in the child's progress and help to not only educate but to build their confidence. Zara started at- Active Explorers Airport when she was two and will be turning four soon. We have enjoyed our journey with Active Explorers Airport and would highly recommend them.

The teachers in supertots are amazing and so interactive with the children and my daughter absolutely loves them, I am truly pleased at how much she has learnt and how she interacts with other children, she surprises me each day!
