Meet our Centre Manager

Kiaora

My name is Karmin! Inspired by my mother, a kindergarten teacher, I developed a passion for early childhood education from a young age. I spent countless hours in kindergarten, first as a child, then volunteering before becoming a trained teacher. Now, with 30 years in the field, I cherish the meaningful relationships built with children, their families, and caregivers. I believe in learning through uninterrupted play and child-led routines. Summer is my favorite season, as it opens up endless outdoor learning opportunities. I hold a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and a current First Aid Certificate.

About Active Explorers Richmond

At Active Explorers Richmond, we focus on fostering strong relationships and cultural understanding that help children develop social and emotional competence. We embrace a child-led learning approach, allowing tamariki to engage with their environment and take ownership of their learning experiences.

Our centre provides purpose-built learning spaces, individual outdoor areas, and a welcoming, inclusive space where children feel safe, loved, and valued. We also integrate Te Reo Māori and Tikanga into our daily practice, promoting a rich cultural experience.

Tamariki in each age group have access to tailored learning experiences. From nurturing environments for infants to preparing preschoolers for school, we provide structured activities, outdoor play, and community connections that support growth and development at every stage.

Our Team

Our dedicated team of over 80% registered teachers create a warm, caring environment where families are treated as partners. With a passion for cultural inclusivity, our experienced kaiako (teachers) bring diverse backgrounds, including Māori, Samoan, Tongan, and Vietnamese, into their everyday practice.

Our Rooms

Our Spaces

Active Explorers Richmond features bright, spacious learning spaces designed to encourage independence, curiosity, and play-based learning. Children enjoy access to individual outdoor areas, community visitors, and a variety of resources to support their development.

0 - 12 months

Tūī Room

The Tūī Room provides a calm, soothing environment where infants can explore and grow. With access to individual outdoor decks, tamariki can enjoy quiet, reflective play with heuristic resources designed to engage their senses and foster early learning.

1-2 years

Kiwi Name

In the Kiwi Room, toddlers are encouraged to develop independence through self-guided learning. The classroom is designed to help them explore and discover while building physical skills in the connected playground, perfect for their growing needs.

2 - 3.5 years

Tēina Room

The Tēina Room supports the development of self-care skills and social-emotional competence. Tamariki are encouraged to learn independently while building positive relationships with their peers and kaiako. This room shares a large outdoor playground with the Tuākana Room.

3.5 - 5 years

Tuākana Room

The Tuākana Room prepares tamariki for school with a structured environment rich in literature and learning opportunities. Tamariki take on leadership roles, share the playground with the Tēina Room, and develop both academic and social skills in a supportive, interactive space.

Fees Information

*20 Hours ECE

Our Centre offers 20 Hours ECE for all children 3-5 years, meaning the cost of childcare can be fully subsidised for a maximum of 6 hours per day and up to 20 hours per week, when you complete an Attestation Form allocating you full entitlement of 20 Hours to our Centre. After 20 Hours ECE the above Over 3 years of age hourly fee is payable.
