Meet our Centre Manager

Katie

Kiaora

Ko Katie Quayle toku ingoa. I am the centre manager here at Active Explorers Papakura. I have had over ten years’ experience in the ECE industry.

I have worked for Active Explorers since the day it opened starting as a head teacher and moving up. This centre holds a special place in my heart since I have been able to help shape it and watch it grow.

At Active Explorers Papakura, we focus on nurturing confident, resilient tamariki through strong community connections, cultural celebration, and learning that goes beyond school readiness. We believe in supporting each child as they grow into their unique selves.

Our centre offers a bright, purpose-built environment surrounded by nature and city life. Our tamariki enjoy walks to visit nearby horses and local parks, making every day an adventure in learning and discovery.

Inside our centre, children are grouped by age to ensure tailored care and education. From quiet, nurturing nursery spaces to our energetic Whānau Room for older preschoolers, each room is designed to inspire age-appropriate development through fun, friendship, and exploration.

Our centre is filled with natural light, colourful learning spaces, and generous outdoor areas tailored to each age group. Children thrive in our fun, safe, and stimulating environments designed to promote movement, creativity, and connection with the world around them.

Nursery

Our nursery offers a calm, nurturing space for pēpi to explore safely at their own pace. With a dedicated outdoor area, soft grass, and a sandpit, babies can enjoy fresh air and sensory play in a secure environment.

Toddlers

2-3 years

Toddlers

This bright and busy room is perfect for energetic explorers. Toddlers love our outdoor bike track, open grassy areas, and engaging activities that support their growing independence and motor skills.

Kindy

3–4 years

Preschool 1

Preschool 1 is a creative and curious space where tamariki dive into play-based learning, storytelling, and group activities. It’s the perfect environment to build friendships and practice early social and learning skills.

Whānau Room

Our Whānau Room prepares older tamariki for school and life. With a strong focus on independence, choice-based learning, and tuakana-teina relationships, children grow in confidence as they explore literacy, numeracy, and collaborative play.

*20 Hours ECE

Our Centre offers 20 Hours ECE for all children 3-5 years, meaning the cost of childcare can be fully subsidised for a maximum of 6 hours per day and up to 20 hours per week, when you complete an Attestation Form allocating you full entitlement of 20 Hours to our Centre. After 20 Hours ECE the above Over 3 years of age hourly fee is payable.
